Short term psychosocial counseling training in Surkhet |
| Training on "Community based Psychosocial Care and Support” organized by Centre for Victims of Torture (CVICT), Nepal starts from 19– 28 September 2010 in Surkhet and supported by UNFPA .16 five participants from various VDCs of Surkhet District . The training focused on psychosocial problems and its identification and Psychosocial support linked with gender issues. |
| Training for enumerators on psychosocial, suicide and gender based violence |
| Training on psychosocial, suicide and gender based violence for research enumerators and survey assistants conducted by Centre for Victims of Torture, Nepal from a 30 August to 7th September 2010 in CVICT Kathmandu with support from UNFPA, UNIFEM and UNICEF organized by RCDSC .There were 16 ( 7 male 9 female) participants in the training from 7 different districts namely- Mahottari, Dhanusha, Kapilvastu, Kanchanpur, Surkhet, Gorkha and Rautahat. The content of the training included psychosocial, psychosocial problems, gender and GBV, suicide, basic communications skills, ethics and guidelines for conducting research and self care. Research in social and mental health issues needs a lot of sensitivity- especially while collecting data to gatherinformation on gender based violence and suicide. |

The training was conducted from the 14th July 2010 to 23rd July 2010 in hotel Eastern Star, Biratnagar
The main objectives of the program are:
• Develop the common understanding about sex and gender.
• Understanding the concept of gender.
• Develop knowledge about national and international approaches toward
Human Rights and Women Rights.
• To study and analysis about Gender Based Violence and develop skills to
provide psychosocial support.
• Develop knowledge about managing and decreasing Gender Based Violence. |
| Training to UN regional career counselors and service providers |
| Capacity building of UN regional career counselor/ technical counselors and service providers (training centre) in Kathmandu under UNICEF’s programme ‘Social re-integration and psychosocial support to self/ informally released CAAFAG and CAAC include verified minors and later recruits’ in process. The training was organized from 3rd to 7th July 2010 in hotel Orchid, Kathmandu. This training equip trainee with the skills to identify psychosocial problems, provide very basic emotional support and make appropriate referrals. They also are able to apply their learned skills in the course of their own day-to-day work and interpersonal interactions and handle difficult individuals/groups. |

| Program On the occasion of 26 June |
On the occasion of 26 June ‘Health on wheels’ camp conducted at sindupalchowk jail. Prisoners received medical and psychosocial support and cases of torture and disability documented. Legal officer made the prisoners aware on their rights against torture, torture compensation; made the jailers aware on the impact of torture and minimum standards to be observed in prison and CVICT’s rehabilitation work described to the torture victims so that they utilize its services after release.
A 1000 litre water tank was also donated by CVICT because the prisoners had no means to store potable water.
Jointly organized program on the occasion of 26 June
A discussion program was organized on 26th June, 2010 marking the "13th International Day against Torture." The program was organized jointly by 15 organizations, namely; National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Center for Victims of Torture (CVICT) Nepal, Nepal Police, Advocacy Forum, INSEC, PPR, CWIN, WOREC, Maiti Nepal etc. In the program, people from various social organizations and political parties expressed their views on situation of torture in Nepal. Presentations were also done by Nepal police (Human Rights Cell) and National Human Rights Commission. Program was mainly focused on lobby for ratification of OPCAT and immediate enact new law criminalizing torture. |

| GenderBased Violence and the management of its consequences |
| Five days training on “Gender Based Violence and the management of its consequences” was conducted by Centre for Victims of Torture (CVICT), Nepal from 25 June 2010 and supported by UNICEF. 15 Participants from Implementing Partners of UNCEF in the training. |

| Short term psychosocial counseling training in Saptari |
| |
Training on "Psychosocial Care and Support" was conducted by CVICT in Rajbiraj, Saptari from 11th June to 17th June that was organized by Women Development Office, Saptari and supported by UNFPA. Twenty-two participants from various government offices, legal sectors, health sectors and various women cooperatives of Saptari District took part in the training. The training focused on psychosocial, psychosocial problems and its identification and psychosocial support linked with gender issues.

| Counselling Training |
| CVICT is currently conducting a four months community based psychosocial intervention (including counseling) as a part of "strengthening women empowerment through psychosocial intervention". The participants of this program are social mobilizers (women) from Women Development Office (WDO) of 12 districts. The program is being supported by United Nations Funds for Population (UNFPA) |

| Certification process of psychosocial counseling training with CTEVT |

| CVICT, through support from UNFPA and in coordination with three other organizations (TPO Nepal, PPR Nepal and APSC Nepal) is working on curriculum development of psychosocial counseling training and its certification with CTEVT. The four organizations have formed a steering committee to facilitate the curriculum development and certification process. A consultation workshop is planned to discuss on the process and to get feedbacks and suggestions from stakeholders of psychosocial and mental health care. Various workshops will be held with different level of individuals involved in psychosocial and mental health care for the development of curriculum. |

The major objectives of this certification process are:
- To develop and register the psychosocial counseling training curriculum in the CTEVT
- To bring about common understanding between organizations on psychosocial counseling training so that there will be uniformity in all psychosocial counseling trainings conducted by different organizations
