CVICT presents a paper on how holistic rehabilitation and medico-legal
investigation can complement each other in securing legal justice for
torture victims at the Asian regional conference in the Philippines from
22-24 November 2011. The conference was organized by the Medical Action
Group, Phillipines and the IRCT, Denmark. CVICT also stressed on how
holistic rehabilitation alone (even when they don’t receive justice or
compensations) helps to improve their health at least and make the torture
victims function normally in society.
Two case studies were compared: 1) of a torture victim who received
justice and 2) another torture victim who did not receive justice; and
examine its link to collection of forensic evidence and holistic care.
The case studies were linked to 55 victims who received compensation/
justice and improved health and 69 torture victims who didn't receive
justice due to lack of forensic evidence but had improved health after
receiving holistic care.
